Whiteshield & OpenAI on pushing the boundaries of AI Economics

Whiteshield participated in an innovative event held by Dublin City Council and OpenAI as part of the European Capital of Smart Tourism program, showcasing how AI can revolutionise the tourism industry. The event, aimed at promoting knowledge exchange between European leaders and exploring AI applications, brought together tourism officials from across Ireland, the UK, and the EU. The two-day workshop offered a platform for participants to learn about practical AI applications that can enhance tourism experiences. It focused on the potential of AI to create personalised visitor journeys, providing valuable insights into the role of technology in shaping the future of tourism.

Representing Whiteshield, Gianmarco Mazzocchi Padovani, Manager, and Hugo Zlotowski, Policy Advisor, had the opportunity to present to over 30 European city officials and private sector representatives. They introduced Whiteshield’s cutting-edge AI economics models, which leverage advanced technologies such as computer vision, satellite imagery, and econometrics to support faster, data-driven decision-making for policymakers.

Whiteshield’s presentation highlighted an innovative approach to AI in tourism. It moved beyond user interaction models like ChatGPT to focus on strategic AI tools designed for city planning and tourism policies. The team demonstrated how these AI models can predict the effects of climate change on tourism, assisting cities in adapting long-term sustainability strategies.

Several notable contributions marked the event. Barry Rogers and Rudi O’Reilly Meehan from Dublin City Council presented a prototype itinerary generator called A Day in Dublin, powered by the latest version of ChatGPT. Additionally, key speakers including Dana Omran, Jamie Cudden (Dublin City Council), Lane Dilg (OpenAI), and David Power (Dogpatch Labs) explored AI’s transformative potential in the travel and tourism sectors. Dilg emphasised OpenAI’s role in reshaping travel experiences through advanced AI capabilities. Lord Mayor of Dublin, James Geoghegan, addressed the importance of Dublin as a startup hub and its commitment to fostering innovation, positioning the city as a leader in technological advancements for the tourism industry.

During their presentation, Whiteshield showcased several AI-powered tools to support cities in their tourism-related decision-making. These included AI models capable of managing large-scale events, enhancing operational efficiency, and improving visitor experiences through predictive technology. Whiteshield also introduced tools to calculate the economic impact of tourism events, helping cities assess financial benefits and align strategies with long-term economic goals.

Whiteshield underscored the importance of leveraging AI not only for immediate solutions but for long-term strategic planning. By embedding AI into tourism policies, cities can anticipate environmental, economic, and visitor trends, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable tourism sector. This approach was recently highlighted in several European cities participating in the European Capital of Smart Tourism program, where collaboration with OpenAI demonstrated how AI can transform urban tourism management and planning.
