Whiteshield Partners launched in Davos on 21 January 2020 its annual report on labour resilience entitled “Global Labour Resilience Index 2020: The Geography of Work” in collaboration with Oxford University Said Business School, ManpowerGroup, and the Institute for the Future of Work. GLRI 2020 highlights the level of future unemployment risk countries face based on structural, policy and technological shifts and geographical inequalities.
Some of the critical insights addressed in this year’s report include:
Global labour market resilience is on the rise as global unemployment has dropped from 5.2% to 4.9% over five years
The most resilient labour markets are resisting the forces of global volatility
National work resilience can hide critical regional differences that must be addressed
Innovation and technology are the first drivers of labour market resilience in industrialised countries
Three out of the top five countries with the highest level of robots installed per employee are among the top ten most resilient labour markets in the world
The best practice is for countries to reinforce the social contract at the local level to bring labour market resilience to the next level.
