White Shield is providing on‐call surveying and utility locating services to the Hanford Mission Support Alliance contractor under a master services agreement. Since 2013, WSI has responded to 360 task orders for a variety of projects that include land surveying topographic mapping, high definition scanning, or subsurface utility locating and mapping. Mission Support Alliance requires an excavation permit for any excavations deeper than 12”, and these permits mandate the locating of utilities. We utilize ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetics, and frequency detection equipment. The pipe and cable locators are used in conductive or inductive modes to search for buried conduits, and passive mode to search for buried active electrical lines. Many of the projects required emergency response to survey or utility locating using GPR scans due to broken water pipes. The contract requires response services 7 days a week for such emergencies.
The contract has our surveyors working on power line system upgrades, road design projects, water and sewer upgrade projects, and a variety of facility upgrades and emergency responses. Topographic surveys requires us to perform record research, utility verification and marking, surface and sub-surface utility surveying, building and infrastructure surveying, establishment of horizontal & vertical control networks, road profiles & cross-sections, and production of AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings.
