White Shield supported PCL Construction and SDOT with construction survey services on this major project rebuilding the westbound lower Spokane Street roadway, widening the upper viaduct roadway by 41 feet, and building a new on- and off- ramp from westbound Spokane Street Viaduct to 1st Avenue South. The existing upper roadway deck was also to be repaved and variable message signs were installed. The project scope included survey for grading and demolition work including: 4000 lf of saw cut, 5300 cy of roadway excavation and grading and subgrade preparation; roadway paving including: concrete and asphalt paving; bridge superstructure construction including: 200 drilled shafts and columns, 97 bridge spans; site utilities including: storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main; 7700 lf of curbing, 16,000 lf of pavement markings, 188 luminaires, 1 cantilever sign and other roadway and safety features. High Definition Laser Scanning was used to document the existing condition of the roadway and facilitate the design for removal of lighting support blisters for upcoming paving operations.
